In the world of thoughtfully crafted British engineering, few names capture the ethos and spirit of Pembleton as much as Brompton Bicycle do. On the surface, one is a compact folding bicycle designed for the modern urban commuter; the other, a hand-built, lightweight sports car, exuding vintage charm and mechanical purity. But beyond our immediate differences, we form a surprisingly harmonious pair.

They may operate on two wheels whilst we build on three and four, but Brompton and Pembleton share a common purpose: clever design, practicality, and pride in how things are made.
Built on the Same Principles:
Brompton and Pembleton were both founded on simple, practical ideas:
Keep things light
Design with purpose
Make it enjoyable to use
In late 2024, a T24 Roadster customer reached out with an unusual request: he wanted to mount his Brompton folding bike to the back of his yet-to-be-built Pembleton. At first glance, a bike rack might seem out of place on a Pembleton, with its compact footprint and minimalist, lightweight design, but we saw this not as a compromise, but as a challenge. And one that connected back to our roots.
After all, Pembleton was founded on a similar idea. Phil Gregory built the very first Pembleton to take on a road trip to Ireland, with room to carry two road bikes. This project felt like a modern echo of that first journey in “Old Number One,” and we were excited to take it on.

The Project:
The first step was to determine if it could actually be done. We reached out to Brompton with a summary of the concept, and they were immediately on board, recognising the shared ethos between our two companies: lightweight, compact, purposeful design.
Brompton kindly provided a press P-Line model for us to work with, allowing us to take measurements and begin development of a custom rack solution. (Naturally, we had to take it for a spin around the lanes first, great fun.)
The Solution:
As with all things Pembleton, the final design is simple, elegant, and functional.
Rather than build a standalone rack, we designed the system to integrate seamlessly with our existing luggage rack. A stainless steel mounting plate bolts directly to the luggage rack, fitted with three 3D-printed ‘feet’ that locate specific contact points on the Brompton’s folded frame. Each foot is uniquely shaped to cradle a particular part of the bike, and secured with rubber mounts for both grip and protection.

The result: a secure, easy-to-use system that carries a folded Brompton neatly on the back of a T24, without spoiling the lines or adding unnecessary bulk.

Bespoke by Design:
This project is a perfect example of what our low-volume, handcrafted approach allows us to do. Beyond our already extensive options list, we’re able to work closely with customers to accommodate unique requests, solve unusual problems, and help shape their ideal Pembleton.
From the beginning, Pembleton has always been about freedom; on the road, in design, and in the details. Being able to carry a Brompton is just one more way to extend that freedom, whether you're exploring a city or setting off down a country lane.
