absorbers the ‘pop’ mark on the reservoir end. This must be uppermost when fitted to the ‘Grasshopper’ chassis. If fitted with the ’pop’ downward facing the shock absorber will appear to be totally useless. The shock absorbers that have a plastic shield at the piston end with the lettering LIP-ALLINQUANT Made in Spain should have this marking. If you have any different shock absorbers that still need careful fitting let me know and I’ll pass the information on. My second tip has been passed to me from Keith Bull. He tells me that should you need to replace the H.T. leads and are looking to buy some the correct length and with the correct ends ask for a pair of Bosch H40 silicone coil leads for a Citroen AX they make a ‘bespoke ‘ job (as Keith describes it) and will cost about £6 a pair. Rally Call – The details are still a bit ‘sketchy’ but at this moment a survey of possible sites to hold a ‘Grasshopper’ rally is being undertaken. This is planned to take place sometime around the back end of August so keep your diary clear ! !. All owners will be notified as soon as more information is available No 3 – Out of the loft – We’d gone as far as we could working in the loft of the garage so No3 was lowered through the trapdoor and repositioned on axle stands ready for work on fitting the pre-cut panels to commence. Floor, Front bulkhead, Bulkhead top, Glove box, Dash, have all been formed and can now be riveted in place. Front numberplate / fan guard, rear numberplate and mudguards are also on the completed jobs list. Suspension and steering parts are also painted and ready for bolting on so the build should go quite quickly for the next few weeks. A ‘Grand’ day out – The lure of free drinks and 10% discount on spares was enough to make Barry and myself make the short trip to 2CV City in Sowerby Bridge near Halifax for the Open Weekend ! Unexpected was the offer of free spares. These took the form of 3 x 2CVs in the carpark opposite. Help yourself said Tony (the owner) so we did, to a much needed brake caliper for No3. The original off the donor car being cracked around the handbrake pad area, probably due to rough maintainance by a previous owner. A full set of king pins for £18 after discount was a great price and the cool beers also went down a treat. Ya can’t beat getting sumat for now’t ! Gerrys wiring laughs – It’s a funny story now but at the time Gerry thought he was cracking up. Remember I told you that when Gerry Fosh unparceled his wiring loom he discovered all the labels had fallen off, it’s taken him some time to sort it out but this true story happened along the way. Gerry just couldn’t get the engine to fire despite the car being a runner when he stripped it so he asked his son to call round and give him a hand. “Right son you get in the car and turn the starter as I look for clues around the engine, first is the oil light on ?” “Yes dad” “Ok then turn it over” “Dad ! The lights on, its off, its on, its off, its on, its off” “Bloody hell ! I’ve got the oil pressure wire going to the points ! !” Quickly changing the wires around the engine fired up with a deafening roar from the unbaffled ‘Brooklands cans’ Rather too loud for Gerry he is fabricating some baffles before going for the M.O.T. Cheek pays off – Spotting a gorgeous leather Jag seat in a local scrapyard Gerry asks the owner ‘How much?’ “Twenty quid mate” replies the scrappie “What on a Friday ! !” exclaimes Gerry “Ok a tenner” Having seen the seat I can tell you it’s a beauty. Gerry has had a local chap modify it and he’s well proud of the result. IMPORTANT….The exploded diagram in the manual has a error. It should read – The main jet is No32 (fit your 128 jet here) The secondary jet is No31 (fit your 72 jet here) Thanks to Martin Chlebek for spotting the error and researching other Honda manuals to confirm
