NEWS EXTRA – VIKING RAID IN CLEOBURY MORTIMER Through a reliable source photos of an alleged raid to Cleobury Mortimer have come to light. The ‘Vikings’ identity must be kept secret due to their position in the British motoring industry. Quite why this stunt occurred is still a mystery, but one Vikings mother-in-law (name and address withheld for safety reasons) commented on seeing the pictures ’IDIOTS !’ If any reader can identify the two correctly I will forward a pair of W.W.2. Motoring goggles with the next edition. Skids Tips – I’m certainly under pressure to beat the competition tips published this month. I thought I’d start with a tip my Granddad told me many years ago and it is a habit worth getting into. Always grease nuts and bolts before fitting, this will stop the threads rusting and seizing causing problems when dismantling at a later date My next tip has a slight element of danger and should only be attempted when the wife is out.. Borrow the bathroom scales and place under each wheel of your ’Grasshopper’ in turn. Add the weights together and voila ! Total weight ! Its obviously not going to be accurate enough for the ministry at registration time but should give a good guide. (P.S. Remember to clean them before replacing) Speaking of weighing, No2 is going on the weighbridge in a couple of weeks and I’ll let you know how accurate my method was. So what do you do with this information ? Well, you use it in this calculation to work out B.H.P. per ton. B.H.P.-:- WEIGHT IN POUNDS OF CAR X 2240 (-:- is divide) As a guide the B.H.P. of a standard 2CV is 35 Using this method the power output of No2 is 108 B.H.P. per ton As a matter of interest the new B.R.A. Leighton is 87 B.H.P. per ton (according to a ‘Which Kit’ article) Watch out the editor wants to know your power output ! Through the keyhole– Building against the odds ! Whats it like in your workshop ? I know ! ! My garage is bigger than the house, bit it’s still a tight squeeze. Take a look at the photo’s below. Top floor – Paint shop. Ground floor – Mechanicals. North wing – Fabrication and Engineering. Greenhouse – Trim shop. It looks bad but I can assure you I know where everything is. Send me a picture of your workshop and I’ll publish for all to see. (Sweep up first though) Send all your kit building stories to me at – 15 Cornwall Crescent, Baildon, West Yorkshire. BD17 5LT Keep in touch ‘Ed’
