PAG 27, page 16

Albert—Peter Gibbs has flagged up concern about the fit of Phil G's splined adaptors for wire wheels. The problem stems from the 2CV wheel studs protruding 4mm above the face of the adaptor. This means the wire wheel centre bears on the end of the 3 studs and not on the face of the adaptor. David Stephenson in France has said that this can ultimately end up with the centre-lock fixing causing the wheel centre to distort. The cure is to shorten the wheel studs by 4mm making sure that stud and nut end up just short of the adaptor surface, allowing the wheel to fit tight and flat. As yet I still have to catch Phil G for his opinion/advice, but I feel something needs to go out in PAG. Both Alan and I had fitted our wheels and adaptors in the mistaken assumption that having come from Phil as only fitting the Pembleton, they were a "fit and forget item" and that the 4mm gap between wheel centre and adaptor plate was intended. Please let me know what you think - I can them compose something appropriate, including any advice Phil has.

Following on from my last message, I've spoken with Phil G. Wheel studs need to be shortened, when using the splined adaptors for wire wheels, so that nothing protrudes beyond the adaptor surface. I've since trimmed my wheel studs and refitted the adaptors and wheels - with the centrelocks done up tight, the outer edge of the wheel hub centres on my car sit with an even 3mm clearance from the adaptor face.

Albert—Thanks for copying me in on the mail I have sent a reply direct to Michael. I fitted wire wheels to mine, bought the whole lot including tyres from MWS who manufacture wire wheels and adaptors. The wheels are for MGA's and the adaptor stubs for 2CV's, and yes you have to trim the studs on the existing 2CV backplate, and I only discovered this by ringing MWS after finding out that they did not fit immediately. One point I do seem to remember, Phil said that to fit a wire to the rear he had to mod the rear leg mounting for the extra offset, that is why mine has a steel rear, not wire.
All the best Algy
Shhhh !!!Can you keep a secret ? Surgically removed from his games console Crackleport’s No2 son ‘Bad Barty’ spent an hour in the workshop the other week. First engineering job ? Turning the fan mounting flange off the fan belt pulley for Mick Hymers. A proper job he made too. Mick’s a professional engineer so it needed to be good
Mick’s engine is also going through the Pembletonising’ process in the workshop after having been thoroughly cleaned. Rocker covers have been freshly painted and await re-fitting. Gearbox also cleaned, new discs fitted along with serviced
