made a mould that fitted the carb outside diameter, 40 mm, and the filter outside diameter, 35 mm, in the other end and made the extension from carbonfiber
This way the filter fits easily without colliding with the chassis.
I then had everything put together and could not resist taking some photos out on the lawn…
In this photo you can see how the seatbelts exit the bodywork over a piece of walnut secured to the chassis top former. Armrests and proper cockpit coaming not fitted here.
I have fitted stainless conduit for indicators and headlamps. The ignition leads will be protected too.
I have been a little concerned about the possibility of water creeping up on the sloped upper aluminium sheet that forms the part under the dashboard. I decided to block of this possibility by riveting a new bulkhead in line with the front bulkhead of the glove box.
This is what it looks like. On this picture the dashboard has been removed for the paint job and it looks a little untidy…
I have also manufactured some extra aluminium panels for the rear to prevent dirt from hitting the spare wheel and spoked rim.
That finishes part 5! Off to the painter!
