‘Whiplash Acceleration’ Part 1 By Timo The article is now translated, It took sone time, actually a lot of time (sorry for that) What happened and what we done ???? Read on………… In August 2002 the Pembleton website and forum was brought to my attention by Jeroen Cats. On that forum I read a message from John Plaister that he had some drawings for an engine conversion and was anyone interested, so I mailed him. The contact was made. First I got a example of the drawings which I showed my friend Howard. Howard has a construction and maintenance job, which appeared to be very handy. Both he and I were surprised with the quality of the drawings. Howard said he would make it if I got him the main parts as gearbox and engine. We would then get the smaller parts when necessary. Very soon we decided not to use the ordinary 2CV gearbox, but a stronger one, since we were in the market for a 1000cc BMW engine. ‘If you do an engine exchange you better do a big one !!!!!’ I was heading for a GS gearbox and was able to find an eligible Ami Super box for only 115 Euro. No flywheel or clutch included unfortunately. I was told the box was used in a 2CV racer– Not likely as I found out later because the combination of different bellhouse and shaft will not fit. I contacted Jeroen Cats for the missing parts. He told me it was not a Ami box, because of the shape of the driveshafts. However the bellhousing was from an Ami, and so was the mainshaft. Very rare !!!!!! Jeroen was very interested in the bellhousing and shaft and I was in return interested in G.S. bellhousing, shaft, flywheel and clutch. So we traded. In the next edition of Pembletons are Go ! We visit Howards workshop to start the conversion
